First Mini-Marching Band Day Camp a Success

Fifty-five mini-marchers ages four to seven converged upon the ALHS Band Room last Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday and had a great time! Band Aids volunteer Teresa Maxwell and her crew of dedicated parents and marching band members conducted classes in instrument making, music lessons, coloring, and crafts. On the last day, the mini-marchers performed in a parade in front of the high school complete with drum major Jason Stuckert, marching band drummers, and a fire truck! Many thanks to our students and parents who worked hard to make this event successful. Go Shoremen!
Marching Band First Rehearsal July 21st

The Marching Shoremen kick off the 2008-2009 school year with music rehearsals beginning July 21st from 1-4 PM in the ALHS Band Room. The week will consist of a combination of music and marching rehearsals (see calendar of events for details). Wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes...no sandals. A hat, sunglasses, sun screen, and a bottle of water are all necessities for the outdoor rehearsals. School owned instruments will be issued to all students who need one. See you July 21st. Go Marching Shoremen!
Wind Ensemble Makes History

Our Wind Ensemble performed today at the Ohio Music Education Association State Finals are earned a superior rating. The 55 member Wind Ensemble, comprised of mostly sophomores and juniors, performed very well in the Westlake Performing Arts Center, then went on to earn a superior rating in the sight-reading room! This event makes history because this year's wind ensemble is the first Avon Lake concert band to earn a superior rating at state finals since 1991! Congratulations, Wind Ensemble!!!
TOPS Swingband and Avon Lake Jazz Band

It all began with an afternoon clinic with members of the TOPS Swingband offering their expertise to our students. For the evening concert, the Avon Lake Jazz Band opened the concert with "Doxy", "My Funny Valentine", "Manteca", and "Now's The Time". TOPS singer Ron Davis joined the band to sing "Autumn Leaves". The second half of the concert featured the TOPS band. Wow! They were amazing. Many thanks to Doug Day, Dick Wooley, Ron Davis, and all of the TOPS band members for making this an educational and memorable day for our students!
