Wind Ensemble Makes History
Our Wind Ensemble performed today at the Ohio Music Education Association State Finals are earned a superior rating. The 55 member Wind Ensemble, comprised of mostly sophomores and juniors, performed very well in the Westlake Performing Arts Center, then went on to earn a superior rating in the sight-reading room! This event makes history because this year's wind ensemble is the first Avon Lake concert band to earn a superior rating at state finals since 1991! Congratulations, Wind Ensemble!!!
Avon Lake Represented Well at SWC Honors Band Concert
The SWC Honors' Band performed the music of Holsinger, Stanhope, Kopetz, and others at Brecksville High School on Monday, February 25th. The band sounded great and enjoyed a day of rehearsals with Dr. Kopetz, Director of Bands at Capital University in Columbus. SWC Honors Band members from Avon Lake included Janelle Gabriel, Kasey Hahn, Sarah Johnson, Cassandra Dills, Dominic Conti, Bill Konyk, Jake Market, Frank Slife, Alex Yenni, and Dan Krajcik. Go Shoremen!
Dr. Knight visits Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble
Dr. John Knight, professor of conducting and music education at the Oberlin Conversatory, critiqued rehearsals today and got up on the podium to work with the students. Both bands are preparing for the upcoming district band contest on March 7th and 8th at Westlake High School. Thank you, Dr. Knight, for your passion for music and your expert advice!
Private Lessons Available at ALHS
Private lessons offer individualized attention to students who would like to improve their musicianship and playing skills. If you are in the 5th through 12th grade, you may send an email to Mr. Eddleman with your name, grade, instrument, and phone number. Lessons are usually after school or early evening in the high school instrumental music department and are currently offered for trombone and baritone (Doug Day); tuba (Jim Clawson); trumpet (Rich Pokrypka); and percussion (Bobby Kalas).
